Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc, said on Monday that he wants to broaden the reach of Twitter beyond its present “niche” status until it is used by the majority of Americans.
With the signing of an agreement to purchase Twitter for $44 billion, Musk has raised concerns among staff and members of the public about his strategy for controlling the social media network.
The CEO of Twitter, Evan Williams, told reporters gathering on the red carpet at the annual Met Gala in New York that one essential measure of success would be whether Twitter could considerably increase its audience.
“Right now, it’s a bit of a niche market. I want a much larger percentage of the country to be represented on it, participating in discourse, and so on “Musk, who attended the star-studded event with his mother, Maye Musk, a model, expressed his excitement about the occasion.
According to Twitter’s most recent financial report, the social media platform has approximately 40 million daily active users in the United States.
Musk stated that he wants the platform to be “as broadly inclusive as feasible, with the goal of having the majority of the population of the United States on it and communicating,” as well as “as trusted as possible.”
The billionaire also stated that he would make Twitter clear about how tweets are promoted or demoted, and that he would like the company’s tech to be made publicly available for criticism.
When asked about the possibility of a mass exodus of staff, Musk responded, “It’s a free nation.”
“Certainly, if someone does not feel comfortable with that, they will leave on their own initiative and seek alternative accommodations. That’s fine with me “he explained.
