A first, the German automaker has partnered with Pinterest to provide buyers in the United States with a special virtual test drive experience. The Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV will be used for the test drive.

The virtual test drive experience, which provides a full 360-degree perspective of the Volkswagen ID.4 electric, adds a simple and instructive new aspect to the car-buying process.

Volkswagen is delivering this one-of-a-kind virtual driving experience with the message, “Before the world can change, your world must change.”

More than 8 million Pinterest users had previously indicated active engagement with car material before the launch. At least one-third of the platform’s users have expressed an interest in purchasing a vehicle they had not previously considered.

“A game-changing car like the ID.4 deserves a game-changing purchasing experience,” says Kimberley Gardiner, senior vice president of Volkswagen Brand Marketing. 

“With Pinterest’s help, we were able to build a virtual 360-degree experience that shows potential buyers how functional, exciting, and accessible our new electric vehicle is. 

A website like Pinterest, which many users utilise for both buying information and inspiration, offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contact consumers in an entirely new way.

“The all-new Volkswagen ID.4 is truly stunning, but you don’t have to step behind the wheel to appreciate its beauty,” says Andy Holton, Pinterest’s global director of creative strategy. 

“Working with Volkswagen on this virtual test drive gives Pinterest shopping a new level, bringing the best of in-person shopping online.”

The Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV was named World Car of the Year 2021 recently. The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 seeks to compete with rivals such as the Tesla Model Y. 

With its 77 kWh battery pack, Volkswagen claims the ID.4 has a range of 520 kilometres on a single charge. It has a max speed of 160 kmph and can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in 8.5 seconds.
