Drew Barrymore apologised for mocking Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s case on her show The Drew Barrymore Show. During a conversation with guest actor Anthony Anderson, who has been accused of sexual assault in the past, the actor drew fire for laughing about the former couple’s case.
Drew reportedly said on the show that “it’s like one layer of crazy, it’s a seven-layer depth of insanity” about Johnny and Amber’s allegations against each other. “I know these are two people’s genuine lives, and I know what it’s like to have your life exposed,” she added. “I understand the emotions, but they are truly providing this information,” the couple laughs.
Drew later shared a video on Instagram apologising for the same. She called it a ‘teachable moment’ for the future.
I have insulted people by making fun of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and for that I genuinely apologise and thank everyone who spoke out because this may be an educational moment for me and how I move forward and conduct myself,” she added in the video.
To be a decent person, she added, “I can be more mindful and better moving forward because all I want to do is be a good person.” And I believe everyone can teach me and help me grow.”
Johnny Depp has sued Amber Heard for defamation after her Post column in which she portrayed herself as a “public figure symbolising domestic abuse.”
